Pilot Treatment Service & Skill Building Program for Drug Users in Delhi

The Project has two diverse components, which are of high importance in the context of impacting drug use and related services in Delhi. The first component features a pilot substitution service that is to be documented to influence policy on drug treatment services in Delhi. The second is to skill ex-drug users either for improved employability or enhanced service provision through computer and Internet accessibility.

The objectives for establishing a buprenorphine substitution project:

  1. To access the client for a behavior change i.e. IDU Oral -> drugNo -> drug.
  2. To reduce spread of HIV among IDU’s.
  3. To reduce spread of HIV among non IDU’s.
  4. To reduce spread of HIV through sexual transmission i.e condom promotion with counseling.
  5. To reduce spread of blood borne viruses.
  6. To reduce other harms connected with drug use (over doses, abscess etc.)

The objective for training of Ex-Drug Users towards capacity building:

The objective is to train 100 Ex Drug users on Computers towards self-sustainability and skills building so that they can learn basic documentation skills on computer and enhance their access to information through the Internet.

Target Group:

IDU’s and Ex Drug Users

Intervention site:

Yamuna Bazaar area is the intervention site for the project, as pharmaceutical drugs (mainly injectables) are readily available, the area is a hub for drug users.
