The immediate impact of providing health care for injecting drug users can be seen in the results of the First Aid activities which have been provided throughout the project. Initially, the First Aid provided was mainly in the form of treating abscesses which resulted from injecting drug use. As can be seen in Figure 1, the prevalence of abscesses resulting from injecting drug use reduced dramatically to the point of being nearly eliminated from the populations within the reach of the various project sites.
