Development of training material
 

Another step that the government of India has taken towards HIV prevention amongst drug users is the employment of additional staff in drug treatment centers, which receive funding from the government.(400 in number). Sharan was invited to develop the training module for these new staff and the preparation of the module is nearing completion.

 
Training provided by five city partners
 

Partners from the five cities have provided training to a number NGO and different government departments including police, NACO, National Institute of Social Defence, Department of Customs and Excise, National Institute of Criminology and Forensic Science and the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences.

 
Partners included in national HIV surveillance
 

At least two of the partners have been asked by the government to provide blood samples as part of the government surveillance programme.

 
Post Marketing Survey of buprenorphine
 

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has asked the partners to participate in the post-marketing surveillance of Buprenorphine used in oral substitution treatment of opioid addiction. Consolidating the safety and usefulness of Buprenorphine by the government will be a major step towards the development and implementation of official substitution programs. The survey was completed during the past six months and the final results of the survey are not yet known.
