Experiences gained during the functioning of the project over the last three years indicate a strong interest in the community on talking about sexuality. This was demonstrated in the interactive sessions that took place regularly in the center. It was also realized that staff needed ongoing training on sexual health issues. The dissemination of information also needs to be ongoing given the fact that people tend to lose learning over a period of time.
Peer based approaches to dissemination of information were found to be the most effective. The number of clients reporting symptoms of STIs and seeking treatment for the same was very low (113 out of 3400) which seems to indicate that the DIC might not be the first choice as a place for undergoing treatment.
Recent research conducted in the community indicated that sexual activity did occur and the majority of those interviewed had had STI symptoms at some point.
