In Calcutta, the police are so impressed with the program that they regularly provide refreshments for the clients of CT-SCIR. They also provide Horlicks (a nutritional drink) for the sick or pregnant wives of these clients. They have also taken the initiative to minimize the punishment for old drug or criminal cases of clients who are registered in the substitution program. Another police station closer to the other Calcutta partner, the Calcutta Samaritans, keeps the daily stocks of Buprenorphine secure in the police station itself. In other cities there is more understanding of the problem and co operation with the police.
